No-Sew Lace Applique Tote Bag (#12MonthsOfMartha)

***This post is written as part of the 12 months of Martha program.  I get craft supplies from Martha Stewart Crafts for free to create fun crafts with.  All my projects and opinions are 100% mine.***

This month's 12 Months of Martha box was pretty exciting!
I got products from the BRAND NEW Decoupage Craft Line!
“Martha Stewart Crafts is launching a new premium multi-surface decoupage product line that allows users to take decoupage crafting to a new level of durability. This broad line includes more than 57 items tailored to decoupage crafters of every level: premium multi-surface formulas, beautifully detailed paper cut-outs, fabric die-cuts, rolled papers, a variety of trims and doilies, and tools.“

I am excited about all of the items... but I am MOST excited about the Fabric-to-Fabric decoupage!  I made 2 crafts this months so come back tomorrow and see what I did!

The 1st project I did was an Easy Lace Applique Tote bag:

Here is what you will need:
1. Supplies: Martha Stewart Fabric-to-fabric decoupage, Tote bag, Martha Stewart Lace decoupage trims, brush.
2. Place a cardboard box inside your tote to protect the other side.  Lay out your lace pattern.
3. Brush on the fabric-to-fabric decoupage on the bag where you want your lace to go.
4. Also brush the fabric-to-fabric decoupage on the back side of the lace.
5. Place the lace on to the bag and brush on the fabric-to-fabric decoupage on the top.
6. Repeat for each strip of lace.

It is a great and easy way to make a classy tote bag.

Michaels currently has a 40% OFF coupon for any one regular price Martha Stewart Crafts Decoupage Item (includes decoupage, decoupage mediums, tools and accessories) which is valid until September 29th 2013.

Check out more fun projects on the 12 Month of Martha Pinterest board!

***Disclosure: I was supplied with the Martha Stewart craft supplies but my opinions are always honest!***

Spring Yarn Vase

Today, I have a fun and easy spring decor craft for you:

Here is what you will need:
Mod Podge
Paint brush
vase
yarn

Here is how you make your own:
1. Paint on the Mod Podge on the top of the vase down about an inch.  You don't want to go down too far because the Mod Podge dries.
2. Wrap your yarn about the vase over the Mod Podge.  Be sure to cover the end and push all the rings together tight.
3. Paint on some more Mod Podge.
4. Wrap more yarn... repeat, repeat, repeat!

5. Wrap all the way down to the bottom of the vase and use Mod Podge to glue the end in the place.  I had to hold in in place while it dried.   If you are in a hurry you could also use a dot of hot glue.

Add some cute embellishments and you have an adorable spring vase!

How to make Name Blocks Without a Cricut!

I have seen these Name Blocks around the blogosphere for a while now! I love them and wanted to make them but, everyone who made them had a cricut (or bought vinyl letters from someone else who had a cricut!) Well, I found a way to make them WITHOUT a cricut! I am going to show you!

Here is what you will need:
3 Wood blocks (I used a 2X4 cut to these lengths: 6.5, 8.5 and 8.5 inches)
Paint
Scrapbook paper
Computer
Mod Podge
Sand paper
Ink (or stain) for distressing
Power sander (Optional)

1.Sand down your wooden block so that the sides and corners are all smooth.
I used a POWER sander.

2. Paint all the sides of your blocks and let dry

3. Now here is the cool part! I printed the name and year established out on my computer... I first did a practice one on regular copy paper and then when I got the size right I printed it on my scrap book paper. There are lots of cool fonts you can download for FREE online (You can google "free fonts" and lots of sites will pop up... I really like: 1001 Free Fonts) It took me a couple of practices ones before I got the right size that I liked. Trim your scrapbook paper to 8.5X11 and put it in your printer when you are all ready. I used 2 pieces of scrapbook paper for it all to fit.

4. Once you have the words printed and cut out use the Mod Podge to glue it to the font sides of your blocks.
  • I glued the first letter of the last name to the 6.5" block on the 6.5" X 3.5" side of the block
  • I glued the rest of the last name on one of the 8.5" blocks on the 8.5" X3.5" side of the block
  • I glued the Est. year one the other 8.5" block on the 8.5"X1.5" side of the block
  • Let dry
5. Use your sandpaper to distress your edges and corners of the front and sides of your blocks.

6. Use your ink or stain to the edges and corners that you just distressed.

7. Paint Mod Podge over all the sides of the blocks to seal and finish it!

It makes a great wedding or house warming gift!
**For Personal use only! If you don't want to take the time I am selling CUSTOMIZED name blocks at my Etsy shop: Funky Joy!**
