Easy Glitter Smile Frame (Tutorial)

Thank you to Silhouette for providing me with the materials for this project
I have discovered double-sided adhesive!  And I am in LOVE!  I got the Starter Kit from Silhouette (30% off all supplies going on now- use code: FIREFLIES!)
It makes it so easy to make projects with glitter and get crisp lines.

Here is how you make it:
1. Pick out your shape or words on your silhouette software and send it to the Silhouette following the directions that come with the double-sided adhesive.  You want the white side up when you load it into your machine.
2. Weed out your shapes and peel off the yellow side leaving the adhesive on the white part.
3. Place on your frame, and peel off the white paper
4. Spread glitter over the shapes and wipe off the excess.  The brush really helped get the glitter  over the letters really nicely.
Your done!

Silhouette June Promo - A deal you cannot miss!

I love my Sihouette Cameo... I loved my Silhouette SD before that...it's basically a silhouette love affair over here.

Here are some of my favorite projects that I had made with my Silhouette:

Heat Transfer Vinyl is my favorite thing to use and I have made so many personalized clothes for my kids and friends!

But it also amazing to use for gift wrap too:
{here i used the washi tape sheet}

It is great for making cards:
{Here are my personalized thank you cards using the sketch pens}

I created this adoption wall art inspired by the book The Red Thread. We adopted our kids from South Korea and there is a proverb that says your heart is connect to your loved ones heart by an unbreakable red thread.

I love it for all things personalized!  It makes it easy to make gifts that look "hand made" and not "home made"!

Hop on over to Silhouette and get this great deal!  Be sure to use code: FIREFLIES at checkout to get the discount!

Snowflakes Everywhere! {HUGE Silhouette DEAL!!}

There is a huge Silhouette promotion is going on right now!  If you have waited for the BEST deal ever to buy a Silhouette machine... this is it!  More details at the bottom of the post!

I made some easy Snowflake Decor with some Silhouette's silver and gold vinyl.
I try to keep the christmas decor simple each year so not to clutter the house.  I love to use silver and gold, since red and green seem a little in-your-face.   I also like to use snowflakes because they last until March (or May in Minnesota!).

First I set my width and height.  I used the 9 inch vinyl so I set the height to 9" and I thought that 2 feet was long enough so I set the width to 24"
Then, I used the assorted snowflakes and made them different sizes.  I cut them out of the silver and gold vinyl... the same snowflakes for both.  I just recut the same shapes.

I peeled and sticked (stuck?) them to the wall. I started at the middle of the snowflake and worked the bubbles out each side.

I love that they are not permanent!  Just take them down when you need to!

Once you have some snowflakes cut out you will want to put them everywhere!

Having a holiday party?  Customize some mugs with some vinyl.

Or add it to a lamp(shade)
I love that I change this out for each holiday or season!

Personalized Thank You Cards DIY and Silhouette Promotion!

My Friend is getting married in October!  And her shower is coming up!  Since I have to give a little hand-made something to everyone (I am getting known for it now!) I decided to make some personalized Thank-You Cards!  I know that they will need them!

I used my NEW Silhouette Cameo and Sketch pens!  Oh-My-Goodness- these are so much fun!  There is an awesome promotion going on this week so be sure to check out the details at the bottom of the post!

I created the sketch design in my Silhouette software.  I also upgraded to the design studio.  HERE is the tutorial I used to make the sketch picture.  I already had pre-made cards, but the tutorial shows you how to cut out a card shape too!

I replaced the blade with the sketch pen and sent the picture to be "cut" to the cameo.  It is so fun to watch the pen sketch away!

I added a little bakers twine (because everything is cuter with baker's twine!)

I repeated for a set of 8 cards and added the envelopes that match.
All wrapped up and ready to give!

Ok here is the awesome promo that Silhouette has going on right now!

(1)    CAMEO plus sketch pen starter pack, metallic and glitter collection packs, plus a $25 gift card and a penholder for $269.99 ($88.96 off the retail price)

(2)    Portrait plus sketch pen starter pack, metallic and glitter collection packs, plus a $25 gift card and a penholder for $129.99 ($108.96 off the retail price)

ALWAYS last minute!

So- it was 9:30 the night before my son's last day of preschool and it hit me... I don't have teacher gifts!!  I had planned for weeks what I was going to do but always put it off because... well... because that is what I do: leave everything to the last minute! Good thing Walgreens is right down the street and open until 10PM!
I picked up these cute water bottles and used my Silhouette to cut out the teachers names with outdoor vinyl (I get my vinyl HERE - super cheap!)  That is what I love about my Silhouette the most... making personalized gifts at the very last minute!  Now, I try to keep a stash of vinyl around just for projects like this.   People love to get personalized gifts!

 I cut out Thank You tags with my silhouette too.  In the morning had my son draw a picture of each of his teachers on the back.   I was in bed by 11 with a cute teacher gift all ready!  Phew- good thing I work good under pressure! : )

Adoption Map Wall Art {Tutorial!}

"An invisible red thread connects those who are destined to meet regardless of time, place or circumstance. The thread may stretch or tangle, but it will never break." -Chinese proverb
My Wall art is inspired by the above proverb. Many of you know that we adopted both of our children from South Korea.  We believe that we were connected with them even before we met them.  The Red Threads were pulling on our hearts brings us together!

Here is what you will need:
2 canvases
Scrap fabric
Craft Paint
Red embroidery thread and needle
Felt (not pictured)
Here is how you can make it:
1. Paint your canvas your base color.

2. Around the sides of your canvas mark off 1 inch marks.  My tape was 1 inch thick so that is why I used 1 inch marks... if your tape is wider you can use wider marks.

3. Use you marks to tape off your stipes.  I wanted a Chevron look to mine so I put my tape at a slant.
The ScotchBlue Edge Lock Tape is Magic!  Seriously... I did not need to touch up any of my stripes. I wanted to test this tape out to see if it could live up to the hype... and it can.
I reversed the slant on the other canvas to get the chevron shape.

4. Paint your stripes with your other color.
 I wanted a distressed look so I did a thin layer with lots of brush strokes.

5. While the paint is STILL WET, take off the tape.  The ScotchBlue Edge Lock works WONDERFUL for this project.  The lines were crisp!  This tape made this project so much easier!
Look at those beautiful stripes!

6. I used my Silhouette to cut out the shapes of the map.  First I ironed on the Shape Edge interface to the back side of the fabric.  I used the trace feature to make the map shapes and cut them out the fit on to the canvas.

7. Cut out heart shapes out of red felt and hot glue in the location of the city.

8. Lightly draw a line for the thread to follow.  I made mine with some loops.  It is hard to see my pencil marks so I tried to point them out to you.

9. Thread your needle and sew on the line you drew.  I thought that it was going to be harder then it was.  The needle went through the canvas and paint very well.  When I got to the edge I wrapped the thread around the side and hot glued it to the back to hold it in place.

All done!

This would make an AWESOME gift for some one who is adopting internationally!
