September Challenge Project #1- Kid Apron/ art smock

For the September monthly challenge on Somewhat Simple the first project was to make a kid apron from a place mat and ribbon. Stephanie got this idea from Dollar Store Crafts who got it from Our Daily Chocolate.

I changed it up a bit. I made it into an art smock:

Here is what you will need:
a place mate
Ribbon
Sewing machine (with thread, scissors, pins)


1.) On the back side, pin down the corners at the top of the place mat (this will be the top to the apron/smock)


2.) Flip over to the front side and pin up the bottom to make the pocket. Pin ever inch across to make the markers so we can make our crayon slots.





3.) Sew the corners. DO NOT start and stop at the edge leave about in inch. this is so we can feed our ribbon through at the end.

Repeat for the other side!

4.) Flip over to the right side top sew where each of your pin markers are.

Keep going all the way across!

5.) Take out the pins and cut all your loose threads.

Using a safety-pin feed the ribbon through the slot at the top of the apron/smock

Pull all the way through... repeat for the other side leaving enough ribbon for the neck at the top.

Place your crayons into their slots.

Put it on your child!

This was quick and easy! I think it would make a great gift!
